When we met Mike Petter, Chairman of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, in November he could not tell us how much money Southern Health NHS had spent on legal fees relating to Connor Sparrowhawk’s death and his inquest.

We have since had a letter which answers our question.

Dear Pam and your fellow My Life My Choice trustees,

When we met on 25 November I said I would tell you how much Southern Health had spent on legal fees for the Connor Sparrowhawk inquest.

The Trust spent £186,119 on legal fees relating to the Connor Sparrowhawk inquest.

We also spent £78,982 on legal fees to help staff who were not represented by the Trust.

These amounts do not include Value Added Tax (VAT).

We do not usually bring lawyers to inquests unless the family have one. When this happens we bring a lawyer to make sure everyone is represented fairly.

For the Connor Sparrowhawk inquest we had a solicitor and a barrister helping us. The inquest also lasted two weeks, this meant costs were higher than usual.

Kind regards,

Mike Petter

Chairman, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust
