What is Easy Read?

Easy Read is a way of writing that uses simple, jargon-free English and pictures to make information easier to understand for people who have a learning disability or difficulty processing information.

It is important that information is presented this way wherever possible to ensure services and the community are accessible to all.

How does the service work?

At My Life My Choice we offer a range of easy read services to help you ensure your information is accessible. Our service is a collaboration between a MLMC member of staff and experts by experience. We have worked with organisations such as The University of Hertfordshire, British Association of Social Workers and The Department of Health to create bespoke guides on topics such as living through the Covid-19 pandemic, how to commission and produce easy read and how to engage with adult social care.

Here is a quick breakdown of the process:

  • Contact us with your inquiry.
  • We will assess what needs to be done and will provide an estimated quote.
  • Your documents will be translated and/or reviewed by staff and experts by experience. 
  • Timelines vary but we aim to return your documents to you within two weeks, depending on the length of the document.

We can work with you to create tailored easy read guides for your organisation or service users. Provide us with your documents and we can put them into an easy read format. Previous work has included documents such as the Oxfordshire County Council LeDeR Report, The Open Universities study on Self-Advocacy during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s report on tackling male violence against women.

This service can be used if you already have an easy read document made up but you would like it to be reviewed and honed by an expert by experience and qualified staff member.
